The much-contested Supreme Court nominee who cried and whinged about bad treatment because he belonged to a de facto gated-community fraternity of conservative rich twats who deem women subordinate, violate them at leisure, do so with impunity and marshal their universally rich, powerful buds to smear anyone who questions this status quo just voted to encode law that trans people who volunteered to serve their country are second-class citizens and unworthy of constitutional protection.
See, those two things are not separate. There is a continuum of behavior, which is, measurably bad people do bad things. They do so because they adopted shitty beliefs that, being cloistered and wealthy, they never had to examine by solving actual problems in their own lives and by never living amongst people who don't have a choice but to do that. And they control the narrative, via those chummy "influencers" who have their jobs because of the exact same fraternal networking and via fraternal wholly-owned media that says, look, these people are successful because they are good at problem-solving and creative thinking so they should be good at ruling us. Which, of course, is the exact opposite of reality.
Like Wilbur Ross and Steve Mnuchin and Larry Kudlow have articulated explicitly in recent days, we have a "ruling class" that has zero fucking notion of what it is to juggle a household budget to pay actual bills for things you actually need to make your life work. The "conservative" solution, as it is to all things, is there is a "natural order," if you are not adhering to it, if you are not assimilating to our very rigid idea of how to be human in this beneficent system-of-systems, that is on you. Get a fourth job, but god help you if you ask for benefits, you fucking commie. Shut up and get in line. Drink lead out of your taps. Be normal, like us, people who never once had to deal with any bullshit in our lives.
The violence of that. The fucking tin-eared capricious malignant engineered violence. The violence of just telling a million families and the families of everyone who works with them to just go without the paycheck they earned, over the Great Cause of Made-up Bullshit. The violence of THOUSANDS of trans people tossed out of a job, jobs where they wore the FLAG on their fucking shirt, because of some chromosomal thing they were BORN with.
Someone, early on in this trainwreck of humanity, admonished me that, well, even Trumpistas, they really want what's best for everyone, they just don't see things as you do. And maybe that's true in rare circumstance, but I don't know how much more evidence we need that they don't. They want good things for those who conform to their idea of Real Americans, and the rest, by remaining apostate, get whatever the fuck is coming to them. And their legal redress should be that they can go screw.
To be very very very very absolutely crystal clear, that's not a symptom of their "beliefs." That is the goalpost. That is what they work for in this shitty de-governmented laissez-faire Uber Alles dogma.
We saw that in the quote of the Florida Trump voter whose town was wiped out, who FEMA had not given a shit about, who whined that Trump needs to be doing bad things to "the people who DESERVE it." [emphasis added]
That's not an aberration. You know it's not. This country, specifically its measurably stupidest, most insulated, most pious citizens, has made being just completely shitty into a virtue - and they've done so because they've accepted those cloistered twats know better how to regiment us — violently, but that is ok, because this same cro-magnon construct of beliefs suggests violence solves problems. They've never met a Muslim but blithely call for the country to be cleansed of them and every adherent of the religion to be wiped off the face of the Earth. They defend concentration camps. They ape actual for-real official-writ whole cloth bullshit that American concentration camps aren't concentration camps. As long as you call something violent something else, reality is clean and you remain virtuous. I'm sure many Good Germans told themselves this. And this, to be clear, is not hyperbolic analogy. Literal tons of actual smart people have studied this, not just the history but the psychology — we know what gets "good people" to do awful things. It's all around us right now, and it makes "good people" fucking BAD.

The damage they have done to actual human lives - not even versus doing good things but versus just not doing awful, dehumanizing shit — is going to last generations, with all incumbent violence, physical and economic. Those gated-community Kentucky Nazi Kids will pick up the mantle even when this current crop of malicious pricks goes to prison, and they'll make them martyrs and quietly bankroll hate groups and figure out how they'll greenlight tactical new iterations of violence. But sure, be concerned about my language in calling Kentucky Nazi Kids "Nazi Kids," just because they act like an actual Brownshirt goonsquad roving around the Jewish quarter, understanding every second their actions are blessed by White Jesus and that they, being who they are, will never ever have to account for them. We already have a master-race in this country, but oh no, you're mad that I call it that, in spite of all the genuine material conditions of it being evident.
In 2016, on the day after the election, three Kansas MAGA-Nazis made a plan to plant bombs in an apartment complex where Somali immigrants lived and murder them all. One of the Nazis, prior to his recent sentencing, told the court that the plot, which he hatched and participated in until caught, was "not who I am." Defense attorneys for the Nazis, no shit, asked the judge to "take into the account the divisive political atmosphere" — in effect, arguing that these men, however misguided, were just over-enthused by their effort to Make America Great Again so they plotted mass murder.
Curious how nearly every right-wing revanchist lunatic chud, when caught, whinges "this is not who I am." Every call for facile fucking "civility" I hear from liberals and conservatives alike basically comes off as, "Well, sure this guy planned to murder an entire complex of Somali immigrants, but maybe we should at least hear him out as to his better qualities."
The isolation and shaming of the most loathsome and not-coincidentally-batshit-dogma-driven human beings this country has produced — and they are legion — is not about "freedom of speech" [massive jerkoff motion], it's about fucking behavior and the consequences of it and calling it the learned sociopathy it is — so that we make it clear this shit is not ok. Politesse and decorum and presuming the "good intentions" of blatantly obvious racists and bending over until your head is up your ass to normalize their obtuse predatory medieval-ass bullshit is exactly how we got here.
As has been said before by better than me: When someone shows you who they are, fucking believe them.
Anybody who tells you to be "civil," to regulate your words so as to not hurt gleefully violent people's feelings or "vulgarize" your argument or whatever — Jesus Christ, I just don't know what to say anymore. I guess, first, I'm not having an argument. Much less with those people. Anyone who thinks the world is 6,000 years old and who has, for themselves and their pallid tribe of lunatics, suspended all law of cause and effect, why would I waste my breath trying to convince them of goddamn anything. I'm pretty good with my current batch of friends seeing as they actually get concepts and how language works.
And, y'know what, if someone acts like a fucking Nazi, call them a Nazi. Like if they institutionally just dehumanized a million and a half Americans. Of course they don't have to explicitly so-identify — they've already identified it with their behavior. Notably, they've declared themselves above the rest of us and above the law, which they've also determined malleable per the whim of the shittiest dumbest people this species has managed to produce. Who are measurably bad at problem solving but should be given all the problems to solve. Who should be granted impunity to fuck over whomever they want as long as they are "people who deserve it." They fully believe they have elected kings and lords, with all the incumbent primacy and impunity that involves, not democratic representatives, and, moreover, don't understand the actual material erosion of what this republic is that that entails.
"I don't hate anybody," the Good Christian talking point goes, but, haha, guess what you sure acted pretty specifically to make it possible for people who do to rain down hate on my family, friends, neighbors and fellow citizens. So who gives a lonely, aching shit what you say. An armband you wear on on your idiot fucking pale born-again head is still an armband if it's serving the exact same function.
